Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys

Well, We have had a little trouble around here.  Yesterday morning, I was awakened by a neighbor who is a nurse, and was called in by our small town ambulance service on a call from our other neighbors about one of their cowboy crew who had been thrown from a horse.  The cowboy was my husband.  They were moving cows up on the mountain, and my husband's horse got himself in a strange situation with hoof and reins... the horse proceeded to quickly back up to try to untangle himself,  stumbled and fell, rolling on Steve in the process; at least this is the story I have pieced together by those who have tried to tell me about it.   Steve had to be helicoptered out, because of the difficulty in getting him out any other way.  He broke an ankle and arm.  We are thanking the Lord that was all.  No back, head or neck injuries.  He was in surgery for about 6 hours yesterday.  They put plates and pins in both breaks.  The ankle was a compound fracture.  Phew.  What an ordeal.

So  It has been a rough couple of days for us; yet we  feel such a peace of the Lord.  He does go before us, and is with us through all things, and His presence is amazing.  We have had such an outpouring of prayers, and kindness from our family and friends, which alone has been a balm to our hearts.

Tomorrow I will be trying to get our house ready for Steve, which isn't super easy, considering we have several levels and our bedroom is up a flight of stairs.  We are not very wheel chair friendly at our house.   It sure makes you think differently when all of a sudden you need to consider wheel chair access.  I have a few Ideas; so I will keep you posted.  I wanted to share with my blogging friends, and of course I am so grateful for your prayers.

The picture above is my little grandson Elon, who really does want to grow up to be a cowboy like his grandpa. With five little grandsons, all adorable little cowboys, there's probably not much point in my post title, but, well,  you get the idea :)

Much Love,
Pam

Psalm 91

 Max McLean Audio Bible, English Standard Version

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge —
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

  3. Oh Pam I'm sorry to hear about Steve's accident but you are so right, it could have been so much worse than broken limbs. Hope you can get the house organized - you will be pulling up all your rugs and moving furniture. Did you know I used to be an occupational therapist? Maybe I could fly over and do a home assessment for you! Home visits were always interesting and a challenge in England because many homes have stairs, tiny little bathrooms and back kitchens with narrow halls. Totally wheelchair inaccessible!
    Anyway - praying for a speedy recovery and it will be interesting to see what ideas you come up with for modifying your home! Very apt word verification for your cowboy post - it is bulet!

  4. Praying for you and especially for your husband's recovery. Although it could have been much worse, it still must be pretty painful for him, and traumatic for you too.

    I hope you get your house sorted and that your husband makes a good patient! ♥

  6. Hi Pam!! Thanks for thinking of us and yes please do send along your daughters email. I will have my husband get in contact with him. Next week we are hoping our stuff will arrive our house does not look like much of a home right now...my husband though is dying to have a nice big BBQ. My husband works on the bases and at the airport ....I am not sure if you know what he does?? He is the Regional Manager for Afghanistan and Iraq but his office is in Bahrain. Before this move to Bahrain he was in charge of the Government and Defense so he worked with anything the Military or Government was shipping. We would love to meet him. Since we are not military and we are here living in the city as civilians we do not get to see very many Americans ~our email is heatheradrianwatts@gmail.com Thanks again for thinking of us such a small small world lol!! Love Heather

  8. Oh Pam, I am so late in reading this. Things have been hectic recently and my blog reading has gone down the drain.... and this is what happens!
    I'm so sorry to hear about Steve, but so relieved at the same time. It really could all have been so different, couldn't it...

    What a trauma for you - it must have been awful seeing him being helicoptered out. And yet, what a blessing modern rescue services are.
    So much to be thankful for.
    Now off to read subsequent posts
