Corn Dogs

We've been canning and freezing as the surplus is coming in.   Shorty and Toby have been helping.
Its corn this week.  Toby (below) is like a vulture when we are preparing food.  He lies in wait, and snatches any fallen portions very quickly.  Shorty (above) is a little more polite, she waits to be handed her portion.
Toby retrieved a fallen corn cob quicker than we could pick it up.

There was no getting it from him easily.... but he did allow a picture or two.

"....even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the masters table."

We are drying the corn from our own garden, and are freezing corn from our neighbor's garden.

I got this wonderful corn cutter from Target.

I put up the first batch a couple of weeks ago, and Luke put up the second batch today.

.
Russ, Eddie and Luke helped our neighbor harvest his corn, and we were rewarded with the surplus.

20 Quarts all together.

  1. Lovely to see you back blogging again and to see the fruits of your garden!

Your doggies are so cute. Must show them to my Calum (9). he is a real dog lover, but we can't keep any pets because of the boys' allergies.

When I saw your post title I was hoping it would enlighten this Scots girl as to what exactly a corn dog was, but alas I still don't know. Your real corn dogs more than made up for that though ;0)

  2. This family loves corn on the cob but have never had much success growing it. That looks like a very handy little tool. I might have to look out for one of those and check the farmer's markets for corn cobs.
Thanks for your comment - still no rain. We are planning on going camping soon - I wonder if it will arrive then! We must have been on pinterest at the same time the other day because you repinned the picture of one of my cake stands as soon as I had uploaded it! I should have said hello in the comment box. Hope your week is going well - I have the busiest weekend ahead. Two markets plus a dinner where we meet the international students that we hope to befriend. Short and sweet blog posts will have to be the order of the day for a while.

  3. Ha-ha! Shorty looks like she's saying, "thank you". Toby looks like he's saying, "don't you dare to mine away!"

  4. So cute!

That's such a wonderful harvest of corn ... there will be the world of difference in the taste compared with ours, if we buy them frozen. Fantastic putting all that in your freezer. x
