DIY Cinnamon Pinecones

I like the cinnamon pinecones you can buy on sale at this time of year; but they aren't cheap... and I have often found that the scent is a manmade scent, that gives me a headache when I have smelled it for too long.  So, I began making  my own Cinnamon Pinecones.  The cinnamon oil from pure essential oils is a delicious smell of Fall and Christmas time and it also works as an air purifier, is anti-bacterial and anti-viral.  I like to diffuse Cinnamon Essential oil through the fall and winter months to help fight the seasonal bugs. Cinnamon Pinecones are perfect for adding beauty, fragrance, and increasing the bacteria and viral fighting qualities in your home.

Gather a basket full of pinecones,

 some nice essential oils...

and cinnamon sticks,

Put the Pinecones in a big bowl of soapy water and  swish the dirt off of them.

Drain, rinse and drain again.

The pinecones will close up a little when wet, but no need to worry, they will open again when dry.

Find an old spray bottle.  Put a small amount of warm water in, and add essential oils.  I put about 1/4 of a teaspoon into 3/4 of a cup of water... you can adjust according to your own liking.  Shake the oil and water vigorously.

Spray over the pinecones until all is used up; be sure to stir and turn the pinecones as you spray.

Add a few drops of pure oil straight from the bottle... drip evenly over the pinecones.

Add cinnamon sticks, dried fruit slices, or whole spices, and stir.   Pinecones will dry in the bowl,   but the scent remains heavenly.
Spray again with the essential oil mixture and drip essential oils into the pinecone mixture occasionally or as the fragrance diminishes, (check it weekly).

Keep your pinecones all over the house... in baskets, bowls and arrangements, and enjoy their wonderful scent.

  1. I love your idea!! Now I just need some pinecones :-)

Love those winter scents filling our home. Just like apple pie baking in the oven or a vanilla scented candle. YUM!

  2. I love anything cinnamon and this has got to be one of the best ideas for a DIY project. I did buy some that were all ready scented (they were on sale) But, do you think once the scent wears out I could re-scent them this way?
I have both those oils on hand, yay!
I have been a busy beaver myself. I am learning how to crochet and making jewelry. And, preparing for my homeschool mother's tea today. Busy, busy!
I hope you have a great day!
    Love You,

  4. Mmmmmm I can smell the pine cones and cinnamon all the way from here! Last night when we were out, we passed a dump truck hauling freshly cut timber, I rolled the window down and inhaled.... it brought back so many happy memories of Dad chopping wood or going up to the 3R and cutting trees. This season is one of my favorites.

I just loved this Mom! In the middle of moving some stuff out of the shed last week, Benjamin tossed a bag of old pine cones! I feel like Roxy, WHAAAAA :D I think I will go out to the forest now and find some more ;) I love you!
