December Cheer

Its snowing outside tonight, and there is a warm, fire crackling and snapping in the wood stove.  I have  a nice pot of soup on the stove and a couple of pies in the oven.  It is quiet and cozy, just Steve and I together.  A nice moment to catch up on a little blogging while dinner finishes cooking.  As the "snow" and "wood stove" imply, we are still in Colorado; perhaps some of you were wondering. Our Nathan and Himilce and the precious grands went home to North Carolina on Wednesday.  I tell you what, having them here with us these last few months has encouraged and blessed us so much; It was very hard to let them go.  I have no problem saying that we are definitely those type of parents that love to have our children and grandchildren around and about us.

I've been doing a little Christmas decorating around the house. I also bought some flowers and greenery to decorate with.   We have some family coming in this week, and I look forward to cooking a nice Christmassy meal for them. Here are a couple more bits and pieces of our December:
Here is "Sugar Bug".  She is stirring the Laundry Soap that she and her Mama made this week; is this cute or what?

There is something so clean and lovely about homemade laundry soap.

We had a cookie decorating party last week....what a great time that was.

Pure childhood delight; to have complete freedom to the access of cookies, icing, sprinkles, and candies.... at least one day a year.

Happy December Everyone. May your days be Merry and Bright.

  1. Such beautiful photos Pam. Occasionally, I think I would love to have a winter Christmas. It is so different celebrating Christmas in summer. I am hoping it will not be too hot this year so we can dine outside. The cicadas are at full noise though and it actually hurts the ears! That might drive us inside. I'm planning to stick to my traditional turkey with the pear cider brine and one daughter is adamant we will have pavlova, likely a bought base just to simplify things. We have been making gingerbread. I have bought the girls pretty pink and blue mixing bowls and pie dishes and lovely vintage style accessories such as sifters and sugar shakers - all from Aldi. No toys from us, all gifts to inspire their creativity in the kitchen. Can't wait to see your Christmas photos. Are you staying in Colorado for Christmas?

    1. Hi Ann, I do love the snow at Christmas time, although these days, I am not opposed to a warm winter either haha. I can just picture the Cicadas... as I grew up with that sound in Phoenix. Your Christmas dinner sounds delicious. I have never had Pavlova, and I do believe it is time that I try it. I love thinking about your gingerbread making and the pretty gifts you are giving the girls... so special. We will be celebrating Christmas in Florida with our girls and their families; look forward to that very much. Hope your whole Christmas season is extra special Ann.

  2. Oh how I want some snow! We are having unusually warm weather here, last night it rained and thundered. Our yard is getting green again and have standing water around, went to the garden to get some dirt for a pot and there were worms in the bed. By this time our ground should be frozen and snow covered.

Love the pictures of decorating the cookies. I always made our grandson's a big gingerbread cookie that they could decorate any way they want. One grandson just puts on a nice amount of frosting, but the younger one gets as much frosting and sprinkles as he can on the cookie. Fun times.

Such a wonderful time of the year!! Have a great time with your family!

    Merry Christmas,
    Cheryl

  5. It looks as though you had a wonderful time with everyone there! Something so comforting just knowing that they were there with you for the passed few months.
That little Swet Bug is adorable as they come. And those boys are quite handsome.

  6. Pam, "Sugar Bug" is adorable!! Love her sweet face~

Colorado/Florida......you're back and forth, back and forth. Must be nice to be home and warm your hands by the fire. The coziness of it all sounds wonderful. Now to have a quiet home, just the two of you, is icing on the cake till you meet up with "Sugar Bug" once again.

Love the cookie decorating party idea. I should do that with my kiddos. They would love having free access to all that sugar! haha!

Will you be going back to FL for a "warm" Christmas or staying in CO for a white Christmas? Either way will be wonderful I'm sure.

    Merry Christmas Pam!

    1. Thank you Cinnamon,
Merry Christmas to you and your precious family. Yes, we will be in Florida for Christmas; we are looking forward to that... and these days I am more inclined to a warmer Climate (unless of course the grandkids are with us; in which case the snowy weather is appreciated.... for that moment... to see them laugh and smile and play in it; haaha). Hugs to you and your sweet family, and Merry Christmas to you all.
