Fabric and Old Notions

Last Spring, my friend Roxy and her daughter in law Amy came out to my house to sew.  We had a delightful non-stop day and a half of sewing, drinking tea and coffee and gabbing.  Sometimes a girl just needs to gab… and sew…. and drink tea and coffee with her friends.  The world is in turmoil; watching the news is depressing, we just need to do something normal and ordinary to feel better.  I'm thinking how Peter and the disciples decided to go fishing after Jesus was crucified and resurrected. They needed the comfort of the familiar.  What I love the most about that story, is Jesus came to them there.  He showed himself to them by doing a miracle in their "ordinary" moment. He comforted them, He stirred them, He commissioned them, He taught them, He reminded them that  He was still with them.  My heart yearns for the same from Him.

Saturday I was up at our little cottage, where I have all my art, craft and sewing supplies, and I sorted and organized and had such a lovely day.  The "normal" tasks gave me joy and lifted my spirits.  My Mom left me a lovely inheritance of beads and jewelry making supplies and fabric and sewing supplies.  I get great comfort in organizing and putting away all of these things.

Jesus had gone away, but He was still "with" his disciples. Sometimes I feel that feeling they must have felt; The world feels different than it used to feel; "goodness" seems to have gone away; but I know He is still with me.   As I sort through old materials and patterns, notions, beads, supplies that belonged to my Mom,  I  find my imagination stirring with ideas of what I can do with them.  I have struggled a little in the middle years of my life, to define myself, and what I feel my purpose is; These familiar things comfort me and remind me of who I am, and give me impressions of so much more to come.  Be encouraged today, to find  peace in the ordinary, find joy in who you are and who you are becoming, take pleasure in the blessings and gifts you have and all that you hold in your hand and know that He is with you.

Have a wonderful week Everyone.

Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”
They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.  But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?”
They answered Him, “No.”
And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

  4. What a beautiful post, made me think of my dear mom and how much I miss her.

What fun to go through the things your mom left you, I no that I so enjoyed going through moms things it made her close to me.

I just got a box of material scraps from my aunt who turned 90 this summer and can't see well any more. She has been like a second mom to me these past 18 years. Just precious going through the scraps and coming across things that she started and didn't finish or just to see the little scraps saved for a quilt some day.

Need to ask what it is that you are ironing in the one picture, it looks interesting. Also I have the same tea cup!

    Have a great week!

    Blessings,
    Cheryl
