Red, White and Ol' Blue

We have all heard of our dear flag being referred to as Ol' Glory; today Ol' Blue is doing his part to help represent the color blue on behalf of "Ol' Glory"
We had a lovely Fourth of July Weekend.  We went on a picnic Sunday afternoon, with Ol' Blue as our Chauffeur.  Just a couple of miles down the road.  I took a few pics to share.  It was so pretty out.   You almost wouldn't know that we are having a terrible drought.
This little creek is usually a river....

The water fall is no longer falling, but a little bit of water still remains at the bottom.

Look at that lovely sky.

RED
Love this wonderful old gate.  It was a part of an old homestead... the only remaining relic of it in fact.
I think its a wonderful red.
WHITE
This is closest to  white I could find... got a pic of  him today at the parade.... he was enjoying a great cool off, and I could not resist him.
And Blue
Good ol' truck

The Pueblo West  Wet and Dry Parade..... We all agreed in our family that this is the funnest kind of parade of all.

 The streets are lined with cars and the people are prepared with Super soakers, water balloons water bazookas, and hoses of all calibers.
 Close friends and all of our families relax in bathing suites or shorts and catch up with each other as we wait for the parade to begin.
 My Friend Roxy with our Luke with Steve and Barry in the background.
Roxy and her Hubby Danny and their son, daughter in law, and grandsons made everything great fun... especially since Barry (Roxy's son knows how to bring enough water to win the war.
 This is Roxy's Grandson... atop the water tank... ready for the big water fight.
The horses are so calm and easy going.

 Three cheers for our soldiers.... every one clapped and cheered as they went by.

 Amy, and little guys all loaded with their super soakers and hoses, just waiting for those fire trucks to come and start spraying everybody.
The wet part of the parade is about to begin.... everybody is ready.
 Here come the fire trucks... sirens are blarring.

I took these pictures at great risk of getting blasted... and put my camera up when the  really big trucks came through.
Some of the trucks had blow up pools with people sitting in them, spraying everyone as they went by.   There were trucks and trailers, Fire trucks, Police and Sheriff vehicles, people walking, huge bus's that had people in every window with super soakers and water coming from people in the parade and people on the sidelines.
What boy doesn't love a "Huge Water Fight".... although notice that you do not see Eddie in these   pictures... he would not get wet, nor let me get a good picture of him... So Barry and Luke had to hold him and drench him Ha.... I  didn't get my camera back out in time, but take my word for it, it was funny.  I had the privilege of getting Steve wet myself, he wasn't as eager as I was to get wet either... can't have that.  We all went home nicely cooled off.
And then along came this guy... He was hot.  His Mama didn't remember about the parade when she started on their walk this morning.  She got detoured and so did he.  He wanted somebody to spray him down and give him a drink.  No problem; he was certainly in the right place.

My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim's pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song.
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our father's God to, Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!

Happy Fourth of July Everyone
Have a blessed week

  1. Belated wishes for 4th of July Pam. Oh my, that looks like such fun - you can literally have a blast! And they keep the tradition going even during a drought? It would probably get banned here. Don't even need a drought in Australia - each summer the water restrictions arrive and the days of kids jumping in the sprinkler on the lawn on a hot day are becoming a distant memory for those on town water. The sales of hosepipes goes down and buckets go up! This parade reminds me of our trip to Thailand years ago - we had no idea that it was Thai new year and every time we went out from our hotel we were sprayed with water pistols and super soakers by complete strangers who thought it was hilarious to get these unsuspecting tourists. We didn't mind though - it was so hot and humid, it really did cool us down.
    Oh and I loved the picture of the dog!

  2. Yes, so far so good with the water parade, but I think if we have another summer like this one I could imagine them nixing it next year. There is a fire ban including people smoking cigarettes outside, which is a first. The water is a nice alternative to firecrackers and fireworks which were not even allowed to be sold this year. In previous years, they allowed them to be sold, but would restrict which fireworks could be used if it was a dry summer... not so this time.

  3. ~I can only dream of being in a place so warm that you'd enjoy being blasted with water!
    Having said that, our American friend brought water balloons to our party yesterday and the kids had fun on the beach with them (but out of range of the boring adults!!)
    Love the photos of Ol' Blue. What a wonderful set of wheels he is :)
    And love the song... especially that last verse :)

  4. What fun! I've never heard of anything like it, what a great way to let everyone join in with the younger ones, and just be a kid again for a day.

    I love your Ol' Blue too, great pictures for the 4th!

  10. Miss Pam,
    I have no idea how I missed this post!
    Very cute idea to have a red/white/blue picture!
    Every picture felt like home!
    It makes it simultaneously easier and harder to be so removed from it. Easier because I get to enjoy if through your pictures and descriptions. Harder just because I wish we wetter there too. :-)
    Thank you for bringing home to me today! Love you!
